Charles Williams (8 May – 7 September ) was a British composer and conductor, contributing music to over 50 films. While his career ran from through , much of his work came to the big screen as stock music and was therefore uncredited. Throughout his music an uneasy undercurrent of impending tragedy runs under the fantastically crafted, cosmopolitan surface, and this is what gives his remarkably consistent output its unquestionable vitality, tension and strength.
